Profitable websites. If earning money from your web-site is your prime objective then some research is in order. It isn't difficult to launch a site but doing it right, so that it generates income, takes a little time.

If you have built sites before and they are making money then well done, you don't need me! If you haven't, or if you feel you only know a little - or if you are honest with yourself and believe that your sites should be profitable or making more money - then read on because some ways are better than others............

 

I built my first site about nine years ago. I started from scratch, learnt some HTML language, tried various software programmes until I eventually settled on Dreamweaver. The learning curve was steep! I bought my first URL (the Uniform Resource Locator or internet address) placed it with a cheap hosting company and was on the Internet! Total cost including the software was almost £400.00 but I thought it was worth it. I then worked at developing the site, trying all the time to make it profitable. I exchanged links with other web-masters, added more content, a forum, suffered frustrating down-time from server problems so moved hosts twice but slowly built the visitor numbers up. I did several major design changes, put the site with a top quality hosting company, ran competitions and surveys. In other words, I worked at it!

 

That first site, for the UK's Over 50's - www.Age-Net.co.uk is still running. It has thousands of files, draws around 1,000 unique visitors a day, and costs me about £300.00 a year to run. It is self sufficient now, but it took a long time to get into a profit situation. Would I take the same route again to make profitable websites? Not on your life!

It's actually helpful if you have no previous experience because you won't have developed any bad habits! That said, I defy even the most experienced web-master not to learn something new from it. Now SBI is not the only way to build your web-site, but in my opinion, it is the one you should look at first. However; whatever method you use, the basic principals are the same - you choose a niche market which you know well, or are truly enthusiastic about. You research it. Choose the right name. Launch the site and fill it with good interesting stuff. Get people visiting and only then, monetize it.

Turn your visitors into your friends and they will trust your opinion - that's the first step to profitability - visitors who trust you and keep returning.
