Income from ducklings? No, this is not a venture into animal husbandry, something which I thought was a brilliant marketing ploy.

It is almost certain that you have heard of the therapeutic value of animals. It is now well

established that people who own dogs live longer than those who don't, although that may be related to increased exercise. However; animals - dogs in particular - are now being allowed into many hospital wards to visit patients. There is something about just stroking a dog that is deeply rewarding and in many cases it does seem to help the healing process.

The practice is particularly beneficial for the elderly - even suffers from Alzheimer's for example seem to benefit from touching animals - perhaps it brings back memories of house pets from years back - and the practice is now being extended into many care homes for the elderly.

Today though, I heard about two local nursing homes for the elderly which have each taken on three baby ducklings. Unusual, yes, but what really grabbed me about this story was not that they have the ducklings as house pets, but they have rented them and their owner is making an income from ducklings.......

Now just think about this. One man has rented out these ducklings at £25.00 for the three per week................. That's right, six ducklings which probably cost £1.00 or £2.00 each from the farm are earning a staggering £2,600 per year!

Income from ducklings - I am not suggesting that many people could do this - indeed, I would have difficulty in keeping a straight face if I tried marketing this one - but it just shows what Blue Skies thinking can do.
