Earning with AdSense affiliate marketing

Earning with Adsense is one of the easiest ways to start producing income from your new web-site. In your internet research you are sure to see many references to affiliate marketing - often described as the 'secret way to riches' although it is neither secret nor is it likely to make you hugely rich. A proviso there - a very few people do make it in a big way, but they are normally the ones who put the magic products on the market first!

That said, Adsense affiliate marketing is the most likely way you will earn genuine long term revenue so you need to understand it and put the time into making it work.This chapter will deal with earning from Adsense, part of the awesome Google company, to ensure a steady - and profitable - internet future for people like us.

Before you apply for Google Adsense affiliate status you must have your web-site up and running, and it needs to be a genuine site with real content, not designed to temporarily 'capture' the interest of search engine robots or spiders. Yes, you can buy or copy content but frankly, if you intend to earn long term income, you will be wasting your time and your money unless it is good original material. You need content which attracts and interests human, not just spiders!

Assuming that your site is accepted for the Google AdSense programme - and it will be if it is a site of real interest - you will be issued with an affiliate code and you will have access to a range of adverts in plain text, text and graphics, even YouTube videos. You can choose the size and colour combinations and having decided what you want, you will be presented with small blocks of code which you can 'copy and paste' into your own site pages. Great, now you can start earning with Adsense!

The remarkable thing about the adverts is that they automatically link into the context of your pages. They decide what the subject matter means and then provide suitable advertisments to suit! This means that earning with Adsense is almost automatic - Google are doing the work for you! Sometimes this produces some 'interesting' results when put into a site forum for example - where the subject under discussion can often go off at a tangent - but generally they are remarkably accurate.

You can see examples of AdSense advertising helping to earn money on many of the pages in this site. I have mostly prefered to use text only adverts but they could be much larger and in glorious colour if you wished!

You only get paid when one of your users 'clicks' on an advert and the fee you get can vary enormously, based on the advert subject matter. Although there are exceptions for unusual or 'difficult' subjects, the amount you will be paid will not be huge - generally we are talking about a few cents (all fees are in $US) per click, but they will add up each day.

It's impossible to say how much you will be earning from Adsense in total because click through rates will vary from well under one percent to as high as ten percent or more of your visitor numbers. The only thing certain is that the higher you build your visitor numbers, the more successful AdSense will be for you. What can be said is that it will be a very poor site which can't, at the very least, pay for itself through AdSense.

Words of warning... You are not allowed to encourage your visitors to click on adverts and you must never - not ever - click on them yourself. Google has some very sophisticated tracking mechanisms and anything which they deem to be fraudulent will result in your immediate exclusion and your earnings from the AdSense programme will cease. Once out and you are almost certainly out for ever!

So, no false clicks!

 

The actual placement of the Google adverts, the colour combinations, the number of adverts per page, has become a science in itself. Google do offer lots of help and advice - it is in their own interest to have happy advertisers and happy affiliates - and there are also some people who specialise in advising how to best optimise your site to maximise earnings with Adsense but if you just play it straight, providing good content for human beings, you will guarantee some steady income each month.

At this stage I would suggest that you read through this dissertation by Dr. Ken Evoy. HERE It's a long piece and it does promote SBI as the ideal site base, but it takes you through the philosophy as well as the technical aspects of Goole AdSense in a way I have not seen before. There will be plenty of time later to investigate 'magic solutions' after you have heard it from the expert!
